Design and Operation of Oil-Immersed Transformers:
Ordinary transformers and oil-filled transformers are built the same way. They are one of the kind of transformers which are based on core insulation method. Thus, they have the significant features of the oil-immersed coils, which mitigates the thermal effects on the internal components.
The main parts of an oil-immersed transformer are core, windings and bushings. the core gives a path for magnetic flux. The magnetic field is produced by the windings. They consist of coils of conductor wound on the core and insulated with cardboard diaphragms and shielding layers. With increase in voltage, thickness of winding insulation increases. The transformer windings lead to the substation through bushings.
Oil-immersed transformers are used for power distribution or substation applications. Their core and coils are immersed in oil . The oil serves as cooling and insulation . The oil circulates by convection in oil pipes in the coils and flows around the coil and core assemblies. The oil is cooled externally by the tank in small-power transformers. But in large-power transformers, the oil is cooled by an air-cooled radiator.

2. Oil-immersed transformers have a large capacity so that they save a lot of electricity, minimise power loss, conserve energy and reduce costs for the user. The oil inside the transformer also cools the internal core. This increases the durability and electrical performance of the transformer.

1. Maximum ambient temperature <= +40℃
2. Ambient temperature min. ≥ -25℃
3. Standard installation height <=1000m
4. De-rating is necessary under special conditions.
